A2A, inauguration of a new plant for the treatment of the organic fraction of waste

It will be possible to obtain 5 million cubic meters of biomethane and 12 thousand tons of compost every year

Inauguration of a new plant for the treatment of the organic fraction of urban waste in the Cavaglià centerin the province of Biella, a concrete example of innovation at the service of the circular economy. Made by A2A Ambientea company of the A2A Group, the infrastructure, with 60 thousand tons per year of authorized treatment capacity, it will allow the production of biomethane and compost through the recovery and treatment of waste from separate waste and green waste collectionthat is the mowing and pruning obtained after the maintenance of parks and gardens.



From the activity of the integrated plant, anaerobic digestion and composting, it will be possible to obtain 5 million cubic meters of biomethane and 12 thousand tons of certified compost every year to be reused in agriculture. Thanks to this modern waste treatment process, the equivalent of the annual consumption of about 150 means of transport, buses or large compactors can be met. The use of biomethane as an alternative to natural gas also allows for eliminate non-biogenic CO2 emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. A2A’s commitment is also to maximize the use of local resources and businesses in the area, providing for the hiring of 13 workers, to which will be added the resources related to the related activities for specialist maintenance activities and related services.
