Directed by Laura Terruso, About Your Father is a comedy that revolves around two families with very different backgrounds who reunite for the 4th of July weekend. In a trailer released today, we see the hilarious chemistry between Maniscalco and Robert De Niro as an Italian father and son couple. The teaser opens with Sebastian making the difficult decision to invite his Italian immigrant father, Salvo, to his soon-to-be father-in-law’s 4th of July barbecue. Relying on his guilt, Salvo insists that his son include him in the weekend celebrations because otherwise he will have to spend it alone. Sebastian’s girlfriend’s family is everything her father isn’t: kind, warm, loving, supportive and caring, while Salvo struggles to see reason to hug her son.

Two opposite families

Despite their differences, the two families at the center of the film will find a meeting point to celebrate the things that make them special and that unite them as a “family”. Along with Maniscalco, De Niro and Bibb, About My Father it also boasts an all-star cast that includes Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), Anders Holm (Workaholics), Brett Dier (Schooled) and David Rasche (Sledge Hammer!). The film marks the reunion between De Niro and Maniscalco who previously teamed up for the much darker gangster film directed by Martin Scorsese The Irishman. In addition to acting, Maniscalco, known for his extensive comedy career, also co-wrote the screenplay with Austen Earl. The producers are Andrew Miano, Judi Marmel, Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz.
