John Aniston, the charming Greek-born actor who for over three decades played the ruthless Victor Kiriakis in the soap opera The Time of Our Lives, has died at the age of 89. Actress Jennifer Aniston’s father died last Friday, her daughter announced.
“Sweet dad … John Anthony Aniston,” the Friends star wrote in a tribute post on Instagram today. “You were one of the most beautiful human beings I have ever known. I am so grateful you went up to heaven in peace – and without pain. And November 11, too! You always had perfect timing. That number will have for always an even greater meaning for me “.
John Aniston was born on the island of Crete, Greece, on July 24, 1933. His family moved to the United States when he was two; his father anglicized the family names upon his arrival in America. The family settled in Chester, Pennsylvania, where he ran a restaurant.
John Aniston had played another character, a doctor, Doctor Eric Richsrds, in the soap The Time of Our Lives in 1969-70, to then interpret in the same series from 1985 until a few months ago the character of Victor Kiriakis. He also starred in the soaps Waiting for Tomorrow, in the role of Martin Tourneur, and Love of Life.
Aniston also appeared twice in the telefilm Lieutenant Kojak – the star of that series, Telly Savalas, was Jennifer’s godfather – and also appeared in episodes of The Virginian, Star Trek: Voyager, Mission Impossible, That Strange Girl, A detective in the ward.
John Aniston was married to late actress Nancy Dow (Jennifer’s mother) from 1965 until her divorce in 1981 and then to actress Sherry Rooney, known in Love of Life, since June 1984. In addition to second wife and actress daughter , leaves his son Alexander.
