For the former prime minister, “the real protagonist of this round of ballots was abstention in a dramatic way, a fact that should make us reflect and that should alarm all political forces”. And in this regard he added: “The M5s has the duty to give an answer to those who no longer believe in politics as a solution”.

Conte then announced that the 5 Star Movement will be in opposition both in Rome and in Turin and Trieste. “We will work constructively – he said – but without giving discounts to those who govern because our North Star will always be the exclusive interest of the citizens”. The leader of the Movement also thanked Virginia Raggi, outgoing mayor of Rome, and Chiara Appendino, former first citizen of Turin. “They have bequeathed an important baggage from which the next mayors can start,” he said.
