Alperia for the climate, green energy at Cop26

Alperia is one of the few energy service providers invited to contribute and share its experience and know-how on the sustainable energy market at an international level.

Alperia, the third largest producer of renewable energy in Italy, promotes 100% sustainable energy supply at Cop26 in Glasgow together with the Green Powered Future Mission initiative and is committed to achieving the goal of containing global warming by 1.5 degrees. Mission Innovation is a global initiative to stimulate action and investment in research and development to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible to all within the current decade.

The initiative is coordinated by Italy, the United Kingdom and China. Alperia is one of the few energy service providers invited to contribute and share its experience and know-how on the sustainable energy market at an international level. On 9 November, as part of the World Climate Conference, the initiative presented the common roadmap for the implementation of global innovation priorities drawn up by Alperia and the other members.

“Climate protection, a highly topical issue, is one of Alperia’s core values - explains Johann Wohlfarter, CEO of Alperia – For 120 years Alperia has been producing green energy from renewable sources and the principles of our business, from the supply of green energy up to electric mobility and energy efficiency, have always been guided by a vision of sustainability and environmental protection “. As a partner for the energy transition, the fight against climate change is the challenge towards which we want to accompany our territory and our customers “.

Alperia subscribes to the Climate Pledge, carbon neutrality by 2040

Alperia has signed the “Climate Pledge”, an initiative on climate change by Amazon and Global Optimism to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, ten years before the goal agreed in the Paris climate agreement. In 2021 Alperia achieved an ambitious goal in this regard: to be the first Italian utility to become carbon neutral for operational emissions (scope 1 and 2).

But the path of Alperia’s climate strategy does not stop there and has also joined the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an initiative that promotes the reduction of greenhouse gases on the basis of scientifically calculated objectives. This allows companies to align their climate policies with the objectives of the Paris Agreement on climate and to effectively combat climate change. Alperia is therefore committed to defining binding and science-based targets for the reduction of climate-damaging greenhouse gas emissions.
