“Defending a strategic supply chain such as that of compostable should be a priority for our country”. Thus Paolo Arcelli, director of Plastic Consult, during the conference organized by Assobioplastiche, Consorzio Biorepack and Cic today in Rome in which the numbers of the compostable polymers supply chain are illustrated.
Arcelli presents some of the market prospects for the current year: “Unfortunately, in 2023 we expect a drop for the first time in the production of compostable products at a national level”. In detail of some product sectors, “if the disposable items sector has driven the sector in recent years, the diffusion of so-called plates, in particular, reusable ones in conventional plastic, which have already developed last year but have not managed to erode the shares of bioplastics are beginning to determine a significant drop in volumes”.
To conclude: “The sector has been experiencing extremely difficult years for three years, in any case volumes held up last year too, however brake factors are exerting a heavy influence and as a result we expect a reduction; to lend a barrier and defend a strategic supply chain such as that of compostable should be a priority for our country”.
