The blue will face the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo
Matteo Berrettini passes the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Montecarlo. The blue, who turns 27 in two days, beats the American Maxime Cressy 6-4, 6-2 in less than an hour and a half and in the second round he will face the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, who had the better of the British Cameron Norrie, seeded number 11, by 6-3, 6-4.
Berrettini, in his first success on the Monegasque red clay, capitalizes on the excellent performance of his serve (almost 80% of first balls): down 2-3 in the first set he cancels a break point and puts his arrow. In the seventh game, thanks to the mistakes of his rival, he scores the decisive break in the first fraction. In the eighth game the Roman clings to the winning serve to cancel another break point (5-3) and in the following serving round he closes 6-4 in 49′.
Cressy jams again, runs into 2 double faults and gives Berrettini the break at the opening of the second set. The American in the service is disastrous: 2 more double faults in the third game (14 in total), another break and the blue flies away (4-0). Berrettini keeps control of the situation and closes 6-2.
