Strong winds are expected with gusts up to a storm

Today 14 March yellow alert for bad weather and strong winds up to storms in 7 regions: Umbria, large sectors of Abruzzo and part of Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Tuscany and Basilicata. The passage of a low pressure area of ​​Atlantic origin over the Mediterranean Basin will in fact determine – already from the early hours of tomorrow – a progressive intensification of the winds which will continue to affect our country also on Wednesday. The strong winds will be recorded starting from Sardinia and the central-northern regions.

On the basis of the forecasts available, the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned – has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).

The warning provides for strong to stormy winds, with gusts up to strong storms, from the north-western quadrants over Sardinia and from the south-western ones over the Marche and the Apennine areas of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria. Storm surges are reported along the exposed coasts of Sardinia. Therefore, on the basis of the expected phenomena, a yellow alert was assessed in Umbria, over large sectors of Abruzzo and over part of Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Tuscany and Basilicata.

Campania

The Civil Protection of the Campania Region has issued a yellow weather alert valid from 6 pm today, Tuesday 14 March, to 2 pm tomorrow, Wednesday 15 March, throughout Campania with the exception of zones 4 and 7 (Alta Irpinia and Sannio; Tanagro). Thunderstorms could be intense and sudden, they will be characterized by forecast uncertainty and rapid evolution and could be accompanied by lightning, hail and gusts of wind.

In particular, the following are expected: local rainfall, including downpours and thunderstorms, intense in some cases; locally strong winds with gusts from west-southwest rotating from north-northeast in the morning of March 15th. Finally, rough or locally very rough seas are expected with possible storm surges along the exposed coasts.
