Whether you’re looking for ideas for a midsummer party or want to seize the opportunity to ride a trend, here’s how Italian creators are filling the YouTube community with pink-vibes
Barbie returns to the limelight thanks to the homonymous, highly anticipated film. A success in the cinema that is also depopulating on YouTube: in Italyfrom early April to July 31, 2023, online interest for Barbie on YouTube grew by 89% compared to the previous period (December ’22 – March ’23).
The phenomenon brought ‘Barbie-girl’ back into the limelightthe single launched by Aqua in 1997, taking it directly to #6 in the ranking of the most viewed music videos in the world and its remake Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice – Barbie World (with Aqua) at #18 of the same (data as of August 8 2023).
There is a lot to discover about the Barbie film: Fabio Santoro is convinced of this, who on YouTube is responsible for sharing news and curiosities (precisely…) on cinema, TV series and the surrounding area. And Barbie dedicates several in-depth Shorts on the film, telling of the day Ryan Gosling unintentionally overshadowed Margot Robbie, the explosion in Oppenheimer during the screening of Barbie or how the film was banned in Vietnam for geopolitical reasons. While for the most passionate film critics, Violetta Rocks chooses the long format video to talk about how Barbie is rewriting the history of cinema: from the camp cut of the film, to the acting style of its protagonists, from the seriousness of the themes treated in a usable way, to the collaboration of director Greta Gerwig with her life and professional partner with whom she co-produced the film, and much more.
Then there’s the real-life Barbie trend, which in Italy is finding a new sprint on YouTube: several creators have taken inspiration from the narrative approach of director Greta Gerwig to become protagonists or protagonists of their own, personal Barbie-films. Examples of this are the video series by Eleonora Olivieri (recently in its third episode), the Shorts by Ninna and Matti, but also the ironic crossover of Cartoni Morti, Barbie and Ken (the warrior), the double interview by Valentina Olivieri
And then beauty & fashion: from the glam makeup tutorial of Grace on your Dash to the contouring of Barbie by Debora Fulli, from the outfits for the premiere of the film by Gianmarco Zagato to the themed creations by Lanatema to the Barbie vs Brats challenge by AriannaMakeup and much more. Not to mention those who are not afraid of pink contamination in the kitchen, even in Shorts format: and then try the Barbie-chard pasta by 2foodfitlovers or the Tan Dulce cake by Griesel.
