Barezzi Festival, the program of the event that takes place in Parma and surrounding areas


A sonic journey that makes research, variety and sonic contamination its essential cardinal points. From 19 to 26 November in Parma and surrounding areas come back Barezzi Festival for its seventeenth edition: eight days of great music with a rich and top-level line up, with a strong international appeal, preceded by two precious previews on 24 October in Reggio Emilia and 11 November in Parma. Organized and produced byLuce cultural association in collaboration with the Teatro Regio Foundation of Parma and with the artistic direction of Giovanni SparanoOnce again Barezzi Festival confirms its multifaceted and mixed soul, proving itself capable of always looking further and further afield. This is also why the festival continues to broaden its geographical boundaries, leaving Parma – where everything was born – to reach Fidenza and Busseto, and this year reaching as far as Reggio Emilia. Barezzi is also divided into a series of special projects that accompany the concerts on the main stages. In addition to the intimate live shows at Borgo Santa Brigida Of Barezzi Offthey also come back Barezzi Laba project dedicated to high schools at the Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Busseto to promote the rediscovery of Verdi, and Barezzi Snug, a journey through the flavors of Parma accompanied by music through lunches in some taverns and cafés in the historic center of the city: Alberto/Caffè del Prato, Torrefazione Gallo, Tra l’Uss e l’Asa, Artaj, Tabarro and Officina Alimentare Dedicata ( entry by reservation on the 24th and 25th from 1pm). THE PROGRAM

After the success of the two previews – on 24 October in Reggio Emilia in collaboration with the Festival Aperto and the Fondazione I Teatri with Calexico and on 11 November in Parma with Daniela Pes, Sadar Bahar and Gigi Testa -, the festival opens Sunday 19 November. From the States they arrive at the Magnani Theater in Fidenza Okkervil River to present Nothing Specialthe latest album: a dazzling and ambitious work, which for the first time also bears the name of Will Sheff, as a true One Man Band. Monday 20 November we move to the Teatro Regio in Parma for the exclusive Italian live performance of The Jesus and Mary Chain, a seminal band founded by the Reid brothers who pioneered the “shoegazer” movement: dark settings, subtle melodies and dense layers of feedback. Poised between pop and punk, with a peculiar psychedelic streak, the Scottish group was among the main protagonists of the Eighties, updating the lessons of the Velvet Underground and the Stooges and laying the foundations for bands like My Bloody Valentine.

Tuesday 21 November the Regio always welcomes Blonde Redheadiconic rock trio that arrives in Parma for the only Italian date of the tour to present their highly anticipated new album Sit Down for Dinner. A meticulous and engaging album, a testament to the unmistakable, ever-evolving style the band has refined over its three decades of existence, understated yet visceral melodies envelop lyrics that speak to the inevitable struggles of adulthood. Wednesday 22 November at 10.30 he returns to the Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Busseto Barezzi Lab, a free project dedicated to high school students in the province of Parma and Piacenza which aims to give new light, atmospheres, sounds and suggestions to Giuseppe Verdi’s songs, reinterpreted according to the multiple languages ​​of contemporaneity by some of the most valid musical projects of the Italian musical panorama. Protagonists on stage Lyl, Cous Cous for Breakfast and Noe Tommasinipresented by Diego Sorba. At 6pm first appointment with Barezzi Meeting point at Caffè del Prato with the DJ set of Marco Pipitone. He arrives at the Carmine Auditorium in the evening Maxence CyrinFrench composer fresh from the release of his new album Springsong and one of the most listened to pianists in the world: his cover of Where Is My Mind by the Pixies boasts more than 150 million plays and is certified triple diamond. Following, in Borgo Santa Brigida for Barezzi Off, the histrionic and powerful songwriting by Bobo Rondelli.

Thursday 23 November at the Auditorium del Carmine it is the turn of the Giant Sand by Howe Gelb with their experimental sound between post punk and the arid atmospheres of the frontier, an emanation of a desert that is as geographical as it is of the soul and mind. Forerunners of trends and sounds, the band has traveled through decades of alternative and marginal rock, rereading the roots and traditions of American music with an unconventional, visionary and rigorously lo-fi approach. On the stage of Borgo Santa Brigida it’s time instead Shadvisionary pen and voice of the duo Pan del Diavolo, with his latest album CULT. The evening opens at 6pm with the DJ set for Barezzi Meeting point Of Aldo Piazza.

Friday 24 November it starts in the taverns in the city center at 1pm Barezzi Snug with musical-gastronomic explorations together with Pagoda, Martino Adriani, Emanuele Nidi, Francesco Pelosi, Rocco Rosignoli and Matteo Ortuso.

Barezzi Meeting point welcomes the console from 6pm Raregemswhile in the evening the Carmine Auditorium will be all for Stuart Braithwaite: leader, singer and guitarist of the band that changed the history of world post rock, the Scottish Mogwai. The multifaceted artist arrives in Parma solo, a dimension that he began to experiment with at the beginning of the 2000s but which does not lose that magmatic minimalism that also characterizes the sound of his band: a bit of ambient guitar noise, a dose of electronics and some healthy songwriting. Following, in Borgo Santa Brigida for Barezzi Off, the overwhelming energy of the dub plate mixes, synthesizers and cuts of voices by Camilla SparksssSwiss Canadian musician and visual artist and member of the post punk band Peter Kernel.

HinsonTexan singer-songwriter with a deep and warm voice who presents his latest album I Lie To You anticipated by the set of Guido Maria Grillo. Barezzi’s grand finale, Sunday 26 Novemberwill be at the Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Busseto with the only date in our country Lambchop, one of the brightest bands to emerge from the American scene in the nineties.
