Barilla, 100% paid 12-week parental leave


Twelve weeks of paid leave for every parent worldwide. With this initiative, the company aims to enhance the value of its over 8,700 employees

Barilla introduces the new maternity and paternity leave policy which will start from 1 January 2024, each parent will be guaranteed 12 weeks of 100% paid leave. In the event that local legislative standards are more advantageous, the country’s regulations will apply. In Italy, maternity leave will remain the current one provided for by legislation, while paternity leave will be extended from 10 days to 12 weeks.

“We are proud to announce this new company policy which aims to enhance parenting and reduce one of the main factors of the gender gap in the workplace, in line with our path in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion”, says Floriana Notarangelo, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer of Barilla group. “We want to guarantee our employees the time necessary to be with their children, but also a well-being that allows them to return to work peacefully”, added Maurizio Cannavacciuolo, Total Rewards & Organization VP of the Barilla group.

Smart working

For years, Barilla has aimed to promote equality and balance between work and private life. In 2013 it was one of the first companies in Italy to practice smart working, a working model that extended in 2020. In 2017 it was the first Italian company to adhere to the Standards of Conduct for Business of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, aimed at combating discrimination in the workplace.

The Group has been committed to ensuring gender equality for years: 38% of Barilla executives and managers around the world are women. And in 2020, it eliminated any gender pay gap globally.
