He was flying from Baghdad to Dubai on an Iraqi Airways flight when, suddenly, he slipped out of a cage and started shuffling through suitcases in the hold of the aircraft. The images soon made the rounds on the web, and the video showing some passengers caressing him went viral. So much so that the airline was forced to apologize for having “lost control” of the situation. The protagonist of this singular story is a brown bear cub. The Iraqi prime minister has asked to open an investigation into the reasons for the animal’s escape.
The note from the airline
In an official note, the Iraqi Airways he underlined how “the plane’s crew coordinated with the UAE authorities, who sent a specialized team to sedate the animal and take it off the plane. After checking the plane and verifying that no there was no damage caused by this incident, the flight returned to Baghdad.” As reported by the Cnn, the company has apologized after a video of a passenger describing the incident circulated online. In another footage, a bear cub can be seen wandering out of his cage on the plane, while people pet him and try to comfort him. Iraqi Airways he also provided some details: the bear was released from its cage “on arrival at Dubai airport” after being “transported in line with international animal welfare guidelines”.
