Willem Dafoe has shared new information about his role in Tim Burton’s film Beetlejuice 2.
The American star offered updates on the character he will play in the new act of what is about to become a saga.
Beetlejuice 2 it is directed by Tim Burton (just like the original) and the release is scheduled for September 2024. Dafoe has anticipated some details about his involvement in the new film which continues the success of the first film, a true cult movie.
Speaking to the US magazine Variety During this year’s Marrakech Film Festival, Willem Dafoe spoke about his most recent work projects, including his participation in the highly anticipated Beetlejuice 2.
The American actor openly described the character in which we will see him step into: “I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I am a dead person”, he explained to the microphones of Variety. “And in life I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side. But because of my skills, I became a detective character in the afterlife. So this is my job. But it’s made even more interesting by the fact of who I was when I was alive: a B-movie action star.”
Beetlejuice 2 will be released in theaters in September 2024
The sequel to Beetlejuice it is expected to be released in September 2024, almost 40 years after its predecessor, which arrived in theaters in 1988.
Like the first act, this one will once again be directed by the legendary Tim Burton.
For now, very little is known about the film’s plot because the details are kept top secret.
Michael Keaton himself, great protagonist of the original film and also protagonist of this reboot, did not want/was able to offer any kind of indiscretions about Beetlejuice 2. However, it is now official that Keaton has been confirmed to return to the role of the titular character, Beetlejuice. Original cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara will also return. Other actors confirmed for the new film, in addition to Dafoe, are Justin Theroux and Jenna Ortega.
The production of Beetlejuice 2 was slowed down by strikes
In September 2023, Burton stated that Beetlejuice 2 it was “99 percent complete” before the SAG-AFTRA strike put production on hold. On that occasion, the filmmaker added that the film would have been completed in two days if it hadn’t been for the strike.
“Literally, it was a day and a half,” Tim Burton said. “I’m grateful for what we got… We know what we need to do. It’s 99 percent done.”
