The premier posted a video dedicated to the Knight on Facebook
Silvio Berlusconi’s family and partner, Marta Fascina, accompanied the Knight’s coffin to the churchyard in Piazza Duomo at the end of the state funeral. The highest offices of the state – including the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, as well as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the two presidents of the Chamber and Senate, Lorenzo Fontana and Ignazio La Russa – reached out to offer their condolences.
While the hearse was leaving the churchyard, Prime Minister Meloni posted a video dedicated to the Knight on Facebook, accompanying it with the post: “Thank you Silvio. We will not forget you”.
The video opens with the famous ‘speech to the nation’ which marks Berlusconi’s descent into the field, followed immediately by images of the moments that accompanied the most important turning points in his life, political but also private and entrepreneurial. A text accompanies the frames. “A courageous determined fighter – we read – one of the greatest entrepreneurs that Italy has ever had. Capable of innovating and building new roads. Always ready to defend the national interest. He governed with pride, vision and authority that a nation like ours deserves and requires. It has made Italy central on the international scene. And it has written significant pages in our history. We began this journey many years ago – we read again, while images showing Berlusconi with a very young Meloni minister of Youth – We have traveled different paths but the goal was and will remain the same. To make Italy proud and able to amaze the world. Thank you Silvio. We will make you proud”.
