A British businessman, Karl Baxter, bets on England’s victory at the World Cup by printing, before the quarter-final against France, shirts with the words ‘Cup Winners 2022, It’s Finally Home’. A bet that he didn’t pay off given that France eliminated the Three Lions team 2-1 and now Baxter finds himself having to dispose of 18,000 shirts.
“We had a load of blank football shirts that we bought a couple of years ago. We hadn’t done much with them and so I decided to bet on England to win,” Baxter, 46, explained to Sky News. “Regardless of which shirts I have left, as an England fan I am completely devastated by the elimination and how the match went,” said the general manager of Poole-based Wholesale Clearance UK.
In the meantime, Baxter has reduced the price of these unique items to try to dispose of the load: “wear them with pride, add them to your collection, use them to clean the windows… we don’t know”, underlined the manager who however explained that the cost it wasn’t too expensive to make these shirts: “we’ve sold some but there are others to be disposed of”.
