The gas bill of protected households is still decreasing. After the decreases recorded for consumption in January (-34.2%) and February (-13%), based on the average trend of the Italian wholesale market in March 2023 and for consumption in the same month, for the typical family – with average consumption of 1,400 cubic meters per year and under protection – there is a 13.4% decrease in the bill compared to February 2023. This was communicated by the Arera. For the month of March, which recorded a lower average wholesale price than that of February, the price of the gas raw material, for protected customers, is equal to 46.58 euro per MWh.
The cost of gas for families
The Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment explains that “the gas price component to cover procurement costs (Cmemm), applied to customers still under protection, is updated by Arera as a monthly average of the price on the wholesale market Italian (PSV day ahead) and published within the first 2 working days of the month following the reference month.For the month of March 2023, the reference price of gas for the average customer is 74.89 eurocents per cubic metre, taxes included, broken down as follows: expenditure for natural gas 54.40 euro cents (equal to 72.6% of the total bill) for the supply of natural gas and related activities, with a reduction of 16 approximately .8% compared to the month of February 2023. 5.60 euro cents (7.5% of the total bill) for retail sales, equal to the value for the month of February 2023. For transport and meter management the expenditure includes 25.24 euro cents (33.7% of the total bill) for distribution, metering, transport, distribution equalization and quality services, unchanged compared to the month of February 2023. As for the expenditure for system the Arera indicates -31.24 euro cents (-41.7% of the total bill) with the persistence of a reduction effect for the end user. Under Taxes, there are 20.89 euro cents (27.9% of the total bill) for excise duties (20.4%), the regional surcharge (2.7%) and VAT (4.8 %).
The cost of gas
The reduction for the month of March, in terms of final effects, brings gas expenditure for the typical household in the rolling year (April 2022-March 2023) to approximately 1,560.7 euros, +0.7% compared to 12 equivalent months of the previous year (April 2021- March 2022). Thus the Regulatory Authority for energy, networks and the environment, recalling that, as envisaged by the Budget Law, for the entire first quarter of 2023 (therefore still for March consumption) Arera “has already eliminated the general system charges for gas and confirmed the negative UG2 component for gas consumption up to 5,000 smcm per year, in addition to the 5% VAT reduction on gas”.
