Hundreds dead at Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist Hospital in Gaza City, including many children. Hamas accuses Israel of bombing the health facility, with American support. Israel denies responsibility and points the finger at a failed explosion of a rocket launched by Islamic Jihad. One thing is certain: there are victims – it is said to be between 200 and 500. The reaction of the international community was strong. Starting from the Arab world and the Palestinian president Abu Mazen, who canceled the meeting scheduled in Amman with Joe Biden and called three days of national mourning in the West Bank. Doctors Without Borders blames Israel – “We are horrified by the Israeli bombing” – as does the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who speaks of an Israeli raid “not in line with international law”, in a press conference at the end of the summit extraordinary of the 27 on the war in the Middle East. When asked on the same topic, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen held back: declined any comment pending “confirmation”. Russia and the United Arab Emirates have asked for an urgent and open meeting of the UN Security Council to shed light on what happened, reported Russian deputy ambassador to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy (ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR, LIVE UPDATES – THE SPECIAL BY SKYTG24).

Hamas: “The responsibility lies with the USA”

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, speaking to Al Jazeera, said the hospital massacre confirms Israel’s “brutality”. Launching a fresh call for Palestinians in the occupied territories to rise up against the Israeli occupation, he then spoke of the United States’ “responsibility” for the attack, citing the “cover it gives to Israeli aggression.”

Israel: “It was the Gaza terrorists”

“The world must know, it was barbaric terrorists who attacked the hospital in Gaza, not the Israeli army,” wrote Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on X. Then he added: “Those who brutally killed our children, they also kill their own.” Already before Netanyahu, he was the state spokesman for the Israeli army, denying the Hamas version: “An analysis of the army’s operational systems indicated that a salvo of rockets was launched by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the hospital at the time he was hit.” It is therefore “Islamic Jihad” that is “responsible for a failed rocket launch that hit the hospital”. The structure hit, he added, was neither “a sensitive building” nor “an army target”. However, the counter-denial comes from the spokesperson of Islamic Jihad.

Herzog: “Shame on the media that swallows Hamas’s lies”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog also commented on the story, defining news reports that Israel was responsible as “a blood libel.” On his profile And again: “Shame on the media who swallow the lies of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, broadcasting a bloody defamation of the 21st century throughout the world. Shame on the vile terrorists of Gaza who voluntarily shed the blood of the innocent. Never before has the choice was so clear. Israel is opposing an enemy made of pure evil. If you defend humanity you are on Israel’s side.”

The reactions of the Arab-Palestinian world

After the attack on the hospital, the PLO – Palestine Liberation Organization – made a new appeal to the international community asking to “put an end to this massacre”. Egypt condemned “the Israeli bombing in the strongest terms”, Iran spoke of a “brutal war crime and genocide”, Jordan made it known that it considered the Jewish state “responsible for these dangerous developments”. And in Amman in the evening the street protests exploded with hundreds of people attacking the Israeli embassy and setting fire to the external walls. “Hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets of Nablus, Tulkarem and Jenin” also in the West Bank, he writes Al Jazeera.
