After a short period of investigation, the civil police confirmed that the version given by the three was completely fabricated.

According to the version of the three British men, after taking a taxi to go from a hotel in Copacabana towards the historic center of Rio, they were left on the street by the taxi driver in the Penha neighbourhood, many kilometers away, after an argument over the price of the ride. . And here they would have been robbed. According to what was ascertained by the police, however, one of the pursers on board, after spending several hours at a party in the port area of ​​Rio, had gone to the Complexo do Alemão favela in search of drugs, waking up in the morning on the street. The two cabin crew, however, at the end of the party spent with their colleague, had spent several hours in a bar in the Vaz Lobo district, where they had actually been robbed of their cell phones late at night. The three will fly back to Rio to face justice for simulating a crime.
