Chiara Mastroianni will be the godmother of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (THE SPECIAL), which this year sees three Italian films in the official competition competing for the Golden Palm “Il Sol dell’avvenire” by Nanni Moretti, ” La Chimera” by Alice Rohrwacher and “Kidnapped” by Marco Bellocchio.

The news was revealed by the public television group France Tèlèvisions and by the digital media Brut, specialized in social networks, which will take care of broadcasting the ceremonies, in collaboration with the festival. “I have immense stage fright, but I am very happy. I feel lucky to be able to participate in the most beautiful selection of films in the world,” said the actress, in a message also broadcast by France Tèlèvisions. “The Festival is a promise of dizzying sensations, a place where there is always the possibility of the unexpected,” added Mastroianni, who won the 2019 Un Certain Regard Best Actress Award for her role in ‘Room 212’ (Chambre 212) by Christophe Honorè.

The actress, daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni, will present the opening ceremony on May 16 as well as the closing ceremony on May 27, the organizers of the Croisette specified. Chiara Mastroianni, 50, succeeds Virginie Efira who was ‘maitresse de ceremonie’ in last year’s edition.
