‘Cheers’ and ‘Look Who’s Talking’ Star Kirstie Alley Dies: She Was 71

Kirstie Alley, the actress best known for playing Rebecca Howe on the sitcom ‘Cheers’ and starring in the comedy ‘Look Who’s Talking’ with John Travolta, has died. Also known for her portrayals of herself in ‘Veronica’s Closet’, Alley has died aged 71 after “only recently” discovering she was suffering from cancer.

The death was announced by the children on social media. “We are sad to report that our incredible mother has passed away after a battle with cancer which she recently discovered,” the sons say on Instagram. “She was surrounded by family and she fought hard, leaving us assured of her endless joy in her. She was an icon on screen and she was even more so as a mother and grandmother,” her family members wrote.

Alley, born in 1951, was born in Wichita, Kansas. Her career in cinema started in 1982 working in the film ‘Star Trek II’. During her career she has won two Emmys: the first for her role in ‘Cheers’ while her second came in 1994 for ‘David’s Mother’ in which she played the mother of an autistic young man . “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” wrote John Travolta on social media who starred with Alley in the film ‘Look Who’s Talking’.
