Chloé, Chemena Kamali arrives: she is the new creative director

Born in 1981, the German designer will present a pre-collection next January and then the fall-winter 2024 in February: “My heart has always been with Chloé”

New change at the creative helm of Chloé. After Gabriela Hearst’s farewell, celebrated with a show event in Paris two weeks ago, the French fashion house in the Richemont galaxy has appointed Chemena Kamali as the brand’s new creative director. Born in Germany in 1981, Kamali holds a Master of Arts in Fashion from Central Saint Martin’s University in London and graduated with honors in 2007. The German designer has over two decades of experience, including a long tenure at Chloé. She began her career at the house as part of Phoebe Philo’s team before returning to the role of design director at Clare Waight Keller in 2013. More recently, since 2016, she has been Women’s Ready to Wear Design Director for Anthony Vaccarello from Saint Laurent.​

With the appointment of Kamali, the French label continues its all-female journey. After the founder of the brand Gaby Aghion the brand was designed by Karl Lagerfeld from 1966 to 1983 then the helm passed to Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Hannah MacGibbon, Clare Waight Keller, Natacha Ramsay-Levi and Gabriella Hearst. “My heart has always been with Chloé – comments Chemena Kamali -. It has been since I walked through its doors more than 20 years ago. Returning is natural and very personal. I am extremely honored to take on this role and to develop the vision that Gaby Aghion and Karl Lagerfeld, who defined the beginning of the history of the house. I hope to be able to capture the emotional connection and spirit of Chloé today.”​ The creative will present her first pre-collection for Chloé in Paris in January 2024 , then autumn-winter 2024 during Paris Fashion Week next February.​
