Tomorrow in Rome (8.30 pm) al Barberini cinema film screening ‘De Gaulle‘, the story of the patriot general of the French resistance, directed by Gabriel Le Bomin with Lambert Wilson, Isabella Carrè, Oliver Gourmet and Sophie Quintan. The event is organized by Movie On Pictures in collaboration with the Giorgio Almirante Foundation and will see the participation of the writer Marcello Veneziani who will introduce the screening. The intent is to give a correct contribution to contemporary history. The president of the Senate of the Republic Ignazio La Russa and the minister adviser Christophe Lemoine of the French Embassy will be present at the screening. In addition, undersecretaries of state, parliamentarians and personalities from the world of culture and entertainment will take part in the event.
The film opens in May 1940. De Gaulle headed an armored division and led several counterattacks during the Battle of France. He was promoted to brigadier general temporarily. Subsequently he was appointed Undersecretary of State for National Defense and War in the Reynaud government, during the exodus of 1940. He refused the armistice requested by Pétain from Nazi Germany.
Faced with the military and political collapse of France, Charles De Gaulle decides to go to London while Yvonne, his wife, was with her three children on the way to the exodus. From London he called on the French people to resist in the Free French Forces. Sentenced to death and deprived of French nationality by the Vichy regime, he wanted to embody the legitimacy of France and be recognized as such by the Allies.
