On February 16, 2023, Claudio Amendola turns 60, one of the most loved Italian actors by the public. Born in Rome in 1963, he is the son of art: his parents are Ferruccio Amendola and Rita Savagnone, actors and dubbers. His debut is at 19 in the TV series Story of love and friendship, then he never stopped from there: in his career he achieved success and recognition by alternating lighter roles with dramatic characters. In Christmas holidays (top right photo) plays the borgataro Mario, on holiday from Rome to Cortina with his family. In love each other a little (vertical photo) is Marco, a young electrician who falls in love with Cristiana, a princess bored by the label. In Holidays in America is Alessio Liberatore, a student who leaves with his classmates in a Catholic school from Rome to the USA for a two-week vacation

SOLDIERS – 365 AT DAWN/THE DAYS OF COMMISSIONER AMBROSIO/MERY FOREVER. In the following years he was chosen for more dramatic roles. In Soldiers – 365 at dawn (vertical photo), 1987 film directed by Marco Risi, plays the young soldier Claudio Scanna. In The days of Commissioner Ambrosio (bottom right photo), a 1988 film directed by Sergio Corbucci, is the policeman Luciano. In 1989 it was still directed by Marco Risi in Mary forever: it is Pietro, one of the students of Professor Marco Terzi (Michele Placido) in a juvenile prison in Palermo

ULTRÀ/ANOTHER LIFE/THE STOCK. In the early nineties you starred in two films by Ricky Tognazzi. The first, from 1991, is Ultra (top right photo): plays Luca known as “Prince”, Roma fan and leader of the Poison Brigade. The second, from 1993, is The stash (vertical photo): it is the officer Angelo Mandolesi, who is part of a magistrate’s escort. There is in between Another life, from 1992, directed by Carlo Mazzacurati: Amendola is Mauro, leader of a group of criminals from the Roman suburbs. He wins the David di Donatello as best supporting actor

Claudio Amendola opens a new restaurant in Rome

THE LEGENDARY/QUEEN MARGOT. In 1994 these two films with Claudio Amendola were released. The legendary – Hunchback coup in Milan (photo on the left, with Monica Bellucci) is a comedy directed by director Carlo Vanzina: the actor is Fabio, the brother of a thief who agrees to carry out a heist for him. Queen Margot instead it is a dramatic film, a French-Italian-German co-production, directed by Patrice Chéreau: the film received several awards, including the Jury Prize at the 47th Cannes Film Festival

THE HUSSARO ON THE ROOF/PASOLINI, AN ITALIAN CRIME/MY GENERATION. In 1995 Amendola was in the cast of two films. In The hussar on the roof (top right photo), directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, is the carbonaro Paolo Maggionari. Pasolini, an Italian crime instead it is a film by Marco Tullio Giordana which reconstructs the murder of Pier Paolo Pasolini and the trial. Amendola is the Trepalle infiltrator, in charge of finding evidence. A PARADISE OF LIES/Saint Stephen/THE STRONG HANDS/OTHER MEN. 1997 was a prolific year for Amendola. Among the films that come out there is A paradise of lies by Stefania Casini, in which he plays goalkeeper Sergio. Then Saint Stephen, by Angelo Pasquini, in which Nicola is a lifer. In Strong hands, by Franco Bernini, is Dario Campisi, a man of the secret services who reveals secrets in psychoanalysis sessions. LA CARBONARA/THE PARTISAN JOHNNY/SUNDAY. At the beginning of the 2000s Amendola was in the cast of other important films. As The carbonara (top right photo) by Luigi Magni from 2000, in which he is the brigand Lupone. Or, in the same year, The partisan Johnny by Guido Chiesa: he plays Nord, leader of a group of partisans. In 2001 it comes out Sunday (vertical photo), directed by Wilma Labate: she plays Inspector Sciarra, who has the task of accompanying Domenica to the morgue, a 12-year-old orphan who must recognize the corpse of her rapist

CATERINA GOES TO TOWN/BROTHER AND SISTER. Among the films in which Claudio Amendola plays there is also Catherine goes to town (photo on the left), released in 2003 and directed by Paolo Virzì: he plays Manlio Germano, a former neo-fascist politician of the National Alliance. In 2005 it comes out Brother and sisterthe latest film directed by director Sergio Citti: Amendola is Serpente, a photo model who ends up in prison for a misunderstanding and becomes a friend of Giocondo

THE RETURN OF THE RUBBISH. This film directed by Carlo Vanzina and written, among others, by Claudio Amendola was also released in 2005. The actor plays Rocky Giraldi, son of the legendary eighties policeman Nico Giraldi. He too is an agent in the operational police departments

THE PHYSICS OF WATER/CHA CHA CHA. In 2009 Amendola is the protagonist, together with Paola Cortellesi, of the film The physics of water (left photo): directed by Felice Farina, this psychological thriller tells the story of a fatherless boy who has a phobia of water and lives with his mother in a small villa. The arrival of his uncle Claudio (Amendola) creates a short circuit in the boy’s mind. In 2013 it comes out instead Cha-cha-chafilm directed by Marco Risi: Amendola is once again a policeman and in the cast there are also Luca Argentero and Eva Herzigová

WE AND JULIA. In 2015 Claudio Amendola won the Silver Ribbon for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in this film directed by Edoardo Leo. He plays the role of Sergio, a militant communist who is renovating a farmhouse together with three other people. Things get complicated when they receive a visit from Vito, a camorrista who has come to ask for protection money while driving an Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300

THE PERMIT – 48 HOURS OUT. Claudio Amendola has also tried his hand as a director.
