Tuesday September 20 Coldplay appeared in Chile to fulfill the first of its four dates in the Julio Martinez Pradanos National Stadium and the day was perfect and bright, since the quartet that includes the singer Chris Martinthe guitarist Johnny Bucklandscottish bassist Guy Berryman and the drummer Will Championmanaged to illuminate the national stadium with thousands of lights that symbolized the perfect harmony between technology, music and public participation, which was essential.
Coldplay in Chile, the preview
The people who bought their tickets for the first date with his lifelong band got to line up for the Nacional very early in the morning. It was already 9 when those of us who passed by saw that there were dozens of people who made sure to enter first arriving 14 hours before the background show started.
After 5 in the afternoon the gates of the stadium opened and the several thousand people who waited in an orderly manner to enter rejoiced, pushed, ran and dodged the street vendors who at that time shouted loudly for pizzas, drinks, stickers, t-shirts , hats and trinkets Coldplay that one keeps as a souvenir.
In the entrances there was no chaos, but there was the typical disorder of the enthusiasm to arrive soon inside the stadium. And after verifying the tickets to everyone, they were given the white bracelets that would be the protagonists of the night.
Shortly after 7 p.m. he appeared on the scene. Princess Alba and after her Camila Hair. Two wonderful opening acts that, personally, and with sadness I can say, I could not see because those of us who go as part of the press make us come in very late and many times we miss the previous shows, leaving the artists like that, as always. nationals like Princess Alba no registration. This, by the way, is part of the very fabric of a show, especially when the production comes from outside and there are dozens of protocols to enter. I insist, I understand it because that’s life and I regret it, especially for the national artists who are always left without a photo and without words for their work.
Coldplay in Chile: the show
After the presentation was over Camila Hair there was a pause of, more or less, half an hour or maybe a little more, where a projection of images appeared on the screen that reminded us that Coldplay is committed to environmental causes (despite the fact that kilos of confetti and fireworks are thrown during the show). Also in the intermission they invited to participate in the instances of electricity generation with bicycles that were in some part of the National. And in that limbo of smooth rhythms and messages friendly to the underwater world, we waited for the stadium to fill up and the show to start.
At 9:30 sharp the stage screens changed leaving the tour logo and the audience screamed knowing that the good of the night was coming, and minutes later we saw the live video that showed the musicians led by Chris Martin walking the lower part of the stage until appearing between shouts and lights in front of the public.
After a countdown of 3, 2, 1 than his own Martin shouted at the front of the stage the show started and the lights of the thousands of bracelets came on to make way for the song High Power that put the cold and the wait in the background because we knew that a world-class show was coming.
What if the show was good?
Look. I am of the idea of thinking that when thousands of people gather in a stadium, and one of their favorite bands has the generosity to put up a list of well-known songs and to that we add an audiovisual game that involves the public, we can say that it is a great show. And in any case, under that logic, the Music of the Spheres Tour is a tremendous concert.
The almost magical idea of handing out wristbands to attendees is delightful and brilliant. Because the public not only sings, dances and enjoys, but also becomes the protagonist of a complete experience, where the musical choreography of the show passes through their wrists on high.
For its part, the band plays and moves, changes places on stage and talks with people. Even Chris Martin on several occasions speaks in a nice and rudimentary Spanish to communicate that they are happy and to say that it is “the best Tuesday of their lives”, with which he only reiterates that the good vibes of his songs is also a proposal that the band makes you feel with its presence on stage.
Obviously and like every show there are high points, where songs like The Scientist, Viva la vida, Coloratura, Paradise or the well-known YellowThey literally lit up the cold night of Santiago de Chile with a mixture of sounds, memories and shared emotions that together with the light show deliver a great experience. In fact in Yellowall the lights in the stadium are yellow and that beautiful cliché is appreciated and applauded for its simplicity.
If you are reading this chronicle and have tickets for any of the following concerts that Coldplay will give in Chile, or somewhere in Latin America, I assure you that after the show you will know that you were not wrong to want to be there, because the success of the tour does not lie only in the well-known sound of their songs, but also exists and is applauded for putting us in front of a staging that is out of the ordinary because it invites us to live a unique experience that becomes shared and with it, perfect and unforgettable.
Without a doubt, Tuesday, September 20, will be remembered as the day that Coldplay He put on the night of Santiago de Chile the first of one of the best concerts of the year.
