Throughout the course of the tour, Coldplay have accustomed us to big surprises and emotions, but this time they really seem to have outdone themselves. During the concert in Sweden, in Gothenburg to be exact, Chris Martin wowed audiences with a somewhat unique take on Everybody (Backstreet’s back) of the Backstreet Boys.
A unique cover
Maybe after hearing Chris Martin sing O my beautiful Madunina, we could also expect to see him grappling with a great classic of pop music. Yet, in the second of the tour’s four Gothenburg stops Music of the Spheresthe Coldplay singer has once again managed to amaze the audience, giving them a piano version Of Everybody (Backstreet’s back) by the Backstreet Boys, suddenly arrived between the acoustic version of In My Place And Humankind. A completely unexpected performance, but which perhaps was meant to be a tribute to the duo composed by Max Martin And Denniz Pop, now defunct, with whom Coldplay collaborated early in their career. On the other hand, it would have been Martin and Pop who wrote the famous song by the Backstreet Boys, revisited for the occasion by Chris Martin and associates.
The Backstreet Boys’ reaction
Within hours, the release of Everybody (Backstreet’s back) by Chris Martin has gone viral on the net. In response, the Backstreet Boys immediately re-shared a clip of Coldplay’s performance on their Instagram profile, accompanied by the caption “Electrified by the cover of Everybody (Backstreet’s back) made by Coldplay! Truly an honor.” A public thanks, which immediately won the appreciation of thousands of fans of the band.
