An autumn storm is arriving in Italy with the cyclone Medusa: after a long warm and dry period we will move on to a phase of markedly unstable and bad weather characterized by wind and thunderstorms (even snow in the mountains). All accompanied by a sharp drop in temperatures.
Already between today 16 October and tomorrow Tuesday 17 the change will be felt: if in Sicily there will be more sun – says Antonio Sanò, founder of iLMeteo.it – on the rest of the country there will be many clouds, but the only light rains will only wet the reliefs of the North-West and locally the Tyrrhenian side of the Centre. In the second part of the week, however, cyclone Medusa will manage to definitively break through to the Mediterranean Sea. The most intense phenomena are expected in particular on Friday the 20th: the biggest danger, with this kind of configurations, is that of the stationarity of the storms which, in this case, could persist for several hours in the same areas.
The areas most at risk will initially be the northern regions (with particular attention paid to Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia) and the Tyrrhenian sectors (Tuscany, Lazio, Campania) where the possibility of local flash floods is not excluded given the quantity of water that could fall to the ground from the immense storm cells. The rains will however affect a good part of the central-northern regions and the mountains will turn white again, especially the central-western Alps, with flakes starting from 2000 meters above sea level. Furthermore, temperatures will drop by several degrees, especially in the North and Center.
Today, Monday 16 October – In the north: northeasterly winds, autumnal weather. In the center: scattered rain, especially in Sardinia and Lazio. Fresh. In the south: slight temperature drop and rain in Puglia and Campania.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 17 October – In the north: clouds in the northwest, sunny in the northeast. In the center: unstable over Lazio, Abruzzo Molise. In the south: rain and thunderstorms on the peninsular sectors.
Wednesday 18 October – In the north: scattered rain across most regions. In the center: precipitation in upper Tuscany, many clouds elsewhere. In the south: alternation between clouds and clear spells.
