Volandri: “I wish I could have brought 6 players because Lorenzo Sonego is part of the team to all intents and purposes”
Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini lead the Azzurri in the group stage of the Davis Cup 2023 in Bologna where the Azzurri will face Canada, Chile and Sweden. The captain of the Italian national team Filippo Volandri has released the list of Azzurri tennis players scheduled for the ‘Unipol Arena’ in Casalecchio di Reno, from 12 to 17 September 2023.
“We are getting closer and closer to this very important appointment with the Davis Cup in Bologna. Now, just under a month separates us from the debut against Canada in the group stage of the 2023 Finals. The quintet that will represent Italy will be composed by Matteo BerrettiniSimon BolelliFabio FogniniLorenzo musetti and Jannik sinner. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to bring six players because Lorenzo Sonego is part of the team to all intents and purposes but the rules require me to bring only five”, the words of the blue Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri after the call-ups.
“I’m really satisfied with what the guys are doing right now, with the performance they’re offering on the North American hard court. We still have some time to get 100% fit and everyone is working hard in this sense. Our it’s a complicated group but we’ll be ready: our goal is to achieve qualification for the Malaga Finals again”.
