DC, Gerardo Bianco’s funeral celebrated: Mattarella present

Castagnetti’s memory: “Reference point for all Christian Democrats”

Celebrated this morning in Rome, in the parish of San Cajetan, the funeral of Gerardo Bianco, the DC exponent who died last Thursday at the age of 91. Present was the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, who remembered him as a “loyal servant of the institutions, a passionate politician, rich in culture and humanity” and who, while visiting the funeral home set up in Montecitorio yesterday, greeted his widow, recalling having passed ” many moments together” and to be “very close” to him.

Monsignor Guerino Di Tora, former auxiliary bishop of Rome and personal friend of the deceased, officiated the rite, concelebrating Don Matteo Galloni, son of Giovanni, with whom Bianco dueled on various occasions for the role of group leader in the Chamber.

Many party friends present: Pier Ferdinando Casini, Vincenzo Scotti, Calogero Mannino, Ortensio Zecchino, Giuseppe Gargani, Mario Segni, Gianfranco Rotondi and Pierluigi Castagnetti, who succeeded him as secretary of the PPI and who remembered him as a “reference for those who followed his political line but also for the Christian Democrats who have made other choices”. In the afternoon, Bianco’s body will arrive in Guardia Lombardi, his birthplace, where it will receive the blessing at the mother church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
