Codacons data: expenditure increase of almost +2,500 euros per unit compared to the rates in force at the end of 2021
The sting on Italian electricity and gas bills could reach the maxi-figure of 4,724 euros per family in 2023with an increase in spending of almost +2,500 euros per unit compared to the rates in force at the end of 2021. This was stated by Codacons, which today provides a study on the next repercussions of the cost of energy on the pockets of Italians.
ELECTRICITY’. The latest increase in electricity tariffs ordered by Arera (+ 59%) brings the average electricity bill to 1,782 euros on an annual basis per family, with a growth of + 122% compared to the last quarter of 2021 and an increase of expenditure equal to +662 euros per unit.
GAS. To know how much gas tariffs will rise in the last period of 2022, it will be necessary to wait for November, due to Arera’s decision to change the price calculation criterion, passing from quarterly to monthly frequency. According to analysts’ forecasts, gas price increases should be in the order of + 70%. A hypothesis that, if confirmed, would lead the gas bill to reach an average of 2,942 euros per family on an annual basis, with a growth of + 117% compared to the last quarter of 2021 and a higher expenditure of +1,586 euros per household. .
The total sting (light + gas) would thus reach the maxi-figure of 4,724 euros per family in 2023 (assuming constant prices and without considering possible further increases in tariffs that may occur in the course of the new year), with a higher expenditure than the prices in force in the last quarter of 2021 equal to + € 2,476 per unit.
PROTECTED MARKET – Considering that today 10.7 million households are included in the protected electricity market, and 7.3 million in the gas market, the new tariff increases would lead the energy expenditure of households who fall under the enhanced protection regime to reach by 2023 the figure of 40.5 billion euros (19 billion for electricity, 21.5 billion for gas), with an overall increase in expenditure equal to +18.5 billion euros.
Precisely to address the issue of the energy emergency and study shared solutions aimed at reducing tariffs and supporting families and businesses, Codacons calls together institutions and energy companies, which will meet on 18 October in Rome (10 am at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce located in Piazza di Pietra) during a round table in which Arera, Plenitude, Acea, Enel, Edison, Enegan, Illumia, A2a, Optima Italia, Vuscom, Banco dell’Energia onlus will take part.
