Digital terrestrial, from tomorrow Tuesday 20 December we will change

This transition, in English ‘switch off’, will allow users to enjoy HD channels and new services, but only using compatible televisions or decoders

Tomorrow, December 20, 2022, a new phase of the transition to the new digital terrestrial will begin. In fact, from Wednesday 21 December, the channels of all national and local television stations will be visible only if you have a TV or decoder capable of supporting high definition (HD).

To view the programs correctly, it may be necessary to re-tune your devices; if, even after retuning, reception problems persist or the channels are not visible at all, you will need to replace your TV or your decoder with an HD compatible device.

This transition, in English ‘switch off’, will allow users to take advantage of HD channels and new services, but only using compatible televisions or decoders. This is a path envisaged by the decree of the Ministry of Economic Development of 21 December 2021 and already started on 8 March, when MPEG-4 coding was introduced in simulcast with MPEG-2, with the possibility for users to receive all programs from national TV stations with both encoding systems.

It is no longer possible to take advantage of the TV Bonuses provided by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (formerly the Ministry of Economic Development), in order to facilitate the replacement of TVs and decoders that are not compatible with the new transmission standards (there was time until to November 12).

However, the ‘Decoder at home’ benefit remains active. This measure, introduced in collaboration with Poste Italiane SpA, provides for the delivery directly to the home of a decoder compatible with the new technology to citizens aged 70 or over, with a pension not exceeding 20,000 euros per year and who are holders subscription to the broadcasting service.
