CEO Sergio: “I asked the Director of Rai Sport Iacopo Volpi to bring the commentator and technical commentator back from Japan immediately”
“Rai has started one disciplinary dispute procedure against the Rai Sport journalist Lorenzo Leonarduzzi and all the necessary measures for the technical collaborator Massimiliano Mazzucchi”. The company communicates this in a note after the protests of viewers for the sexist comments and vulgar jokes broadcast during the Final of the Women’s Synchronized Trampoline World Championships, aired this morning.
L’CEO Roberto Sergio, commenting on what happened this morning, declared: “A Public Service journalist cannot justify himself by relegating what was broadcast to a ‘bar joke’. I have given a mandate to the relevant offices to initiate the disciplinary I asked the Director of Rai Sport Iacopo Volpi to bring the commentator and technical commentator back from Japan immediately”. “We welcome the communication from Rai announcing the start of a disciplinary dispute procedure against the Rai Sport journalist Lorenzo Leonarduzzi, and we hope that the right sanctions will be adopted for his behavior”, he comments to AdnkronosUsers Association of Radio and Television Services, who intervenes on the media storm unleashed following the commentary of the World Swimming Championships, diving category, by the journalist and technical collaborator Massimiliano Mazzucchi, accused of sexist and xenophobic comments. “It is a serious fact, we have presented a complaint for violation of the Code of Ethics and for violation of the principles of equal treatment between men and women”, explains the organ of radio and television users.
Asking for immediate intervention from Viale Mazzini was also the member of the Rai Parliamentary Supervisory Commission Peppe De Cristofaro, leader of the Alliance Verdi e Sinistra.
“The Rai Parliamentary Supervisory Commission immediately summons the director of Rai Sport Iacopo Volpi and suspend the two Rai commentators accused by viewers of sexist and racist comments during the commentary of the women’s diving world championship final and men aired this morning on Rai Play 2. An analogous case – he recalled – took place a few weeks ago on Sky Sport and the company suspended the commentators who made vulgar and sexist comments live after the Formula 1 Grand Prix. I expect the same attitude from Rai”.
