They have arrived images from the Italian COSMO-SkyMed radar satellites of the damages caused by earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria between 5 and 6 February. The images – taken from the constellation of satellites of theItalian Space Agency (Asi) and elaborated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology – show the damages suffered by the cities of Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras. Seventeen days after the first extremely violent shock that hit Turkey and Syria, satellites continue to acquire images to monitor the many cities affected by the earthquake. The latest images from Cosmo-SkyMed satellites date back to February 20th and have been realized through the method called Intensity Correlation Difference. The method made it possible to realize maps with damage estimates based on site changes, before and after the earthquake. The maps highlight the areas that have suffered damage, such as the destruction of the Castle of Gaziantep, which has become one of the symbols of the devastation of the earthquake.
