Elections 2022, Crespi: “Pd campaign beautiful, but made to lose”

“It’s a communicative castle, the attempt to lose as little as possible: you know you don’t win, you talk to yours, you warm the hearts of yours, you motivate your electorate”

The Democratic Party’s campaign for the 2022 political elections, the one with the slogan ‘choose’ and the two dry alternatives, “is very beautiful from a graphic and creative point of view. But it is a campaign made to lose”. The advertiser, spin doctor and pollster has no doubts Luigi Crespiconversing with Adnkronos.

“The campaigns are used to broaden the political offer – he explains – this instead narrows it. Letta is aware that he has no hope of winning, the wide field has not materialized, and so he is trying to obtain the best result for his party. It is a communicative castle, the attempt to lose as little as possible: you know you don’t win, you talk to yours, you warm the hearts of yours, you motivate your electorate “, adds Crespi, who is also known for being Berlusconi’s pollster and creator of the “contract with the Italians”.

But is a comeback from the center left really impossible? “The polls, as we know – answers Crespi – in recent years have never correctly measured the winner: it happened with Salvini, with the 5 stars, with Berlusconi, with Renzi. The polls have always underestimated the winner. If this rule holds true today , the only doubt is how much Meloni wins, and how much Letta loses. These are the two doubts “.

“The third question that remains, an important one, is how many people go to vote. Until 1976 90% of the voters went to the polls. From 1979 to 2018, we lost 20% of the electorate. Some say that today we could go under 60%. If it happens it is a political and social catastrophe. These are therefore the three great unknowns, how much Meloni wins, how much Letta loses, how many votes. The rest is theater, there is no match “.

What is the best election campaign, from a communicative point of view? “The best is that of Conte: straight by straight without smudging, with a series of wonderful videos, great direction, focused, with selective communication”, replies Crespi. “The worst? Calenda’s: confused, emotional, wandering, very self-taught.”
