Screenplay based on the book by Walter Isaacson. Directed by Darren Aronofsky
Elon Musk’s life becomes a film. The biopic is being worked on, reports Hollywood Reporter, by the film production company A24 which has commissioned ‘Darren Aronofsky’, known for ‘The Whale’, to direct. A24 has optioned Walter Issacson’s new biography of the controversial CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, which will be turned into a film adaptation. Aronofsky will direct and produce the film through his production company Protozoa Pictures.
Aronofsky previously collaborated with A24 on ‘The Whale,’ for which star Brendan Fraser won an Academy Award. According to Thr, the book option deal was highly competitive with top studios and directors in the running. Published by Simon & Schuster, Isaacson’s book explores the 52-year-old’s upbringing in South Africa by a “charismatic and fantastic” engineer father, Errol Musk, and a dietician mother, Maye Musk, who now works as a model. Isaacson followed Musk for two years and attended his meetings, visited his companies’ factories and spent hours interviewing Musk and his family, friends, colleagues and apparent adversaries.
By 2022, Tesla had sold one million electric cars and SpaceX had launched 31 rockets into space. It is not the first time that a biography of Issacson has become a film: the volume on a technology pioneer, the co-founder of Apple Steve Jobs, has been transformed into a film with Michael Fassbender in the role of the CEO of Apple and Danny Boyle who directs a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. The screenplay based on Isaacson’s biography focused on three presentations by Jobs that defined his life and role at Apple. Details about Elon Musk’s film adaptation have not been revealed at this time.
