Energy transition, from the Evolution Forum, Mef’s challenge for immediate sustainability

Three days at the Leopolda in Florence dedicated to discussions with the main players in the Italian and international electrotechnical sector in a green key

Energy sustainability now. This is the challenge launched byEvolution Forum promoted by Mef, a leading company in the electrical material distribution sector, with a three-day invitation-only event at the Leopolda headquarters, dedicated to a broad discussion with the main Italian and international players in the electrotechnical sector, on the subject of the opportunities offered by energy transition and on the evolution of the market with a view to environmental sustainability. The discussion, which began yesterday, was kicked off by a plenary session with all the main Mef partners.

The scenario from which the Tuscan company’s commitment started is this: the purpose of the energy transition is to reduce the use of primary energy (oil and other fossil fuels) and to increase the use of renewable energy, such as that solar. The process – according to the International Agency for Renewable Energy Irena – is still ongoing and the road is uphill. There are two main objectives: to keep annual global warming below 1.5°C, and to comply with the points of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the document signed in 2015 by the governments of the 193 UN member countries.

The latest data from the Enea Energy Observatory in this regard say that Italy’s energy needs are around 500 million tons of oil a year, and CO2 emissions are around 200 million tons a year. However, Italy is among the countries that have done the best, with an 11% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in five years, thanks to its own programs but also to the exploitation of renewable sources, which today represent 36% of electricity production .

“During the works – explains Ettore Russo, Mef sales director – we involved many top-level companies, our partners, to whom we were able to illustrate the enormous evolution we have had in recent years, and we highlighted, in an evening event that thanks to the collaboration of the artist Mario Tozzi, the recent developments relating to the digitization process aimed at optimizing and improving the services offered to customers, as well as investments aimed at the automation of our logistics center, a project of great importance, was also a show and fundamental to sustaining the growth of the company”.

Today’s evening organized in partnership with Bticino, and tomorrow’s evening, in partnership with Schneider Electric, will be dedicated to meetings with the main national customers of the Florentine company.

“Mef’s goal is to explain the most advanced processes with facts and to show concretely that ‘the future is now’, says the CEO, Simon Sanfilippo, underlining the commitment “on hot and very topical issues, such as those of the energy transition and environmental sustainability, increasingly projected into the daily life of businesses and above all of households. What seemed futuristic (the many opportunities offered by energy efficiency, strong environmental protection) – underlines Sanfilippo – are actually available on the market today and the Mef is ready to make them available to Italian businesses and families”.

Not only. “Mef, together with its suppliers and partners, is a candidate without hesitation – Russo relaunches – to become a leading company also at a cultural and training level, to spread messages, carry out commercial actions and give tools to its customers capable of definitively promoting these aspects that they are industrial but also and above all of environmental and social evolution”.

“That is why during the work of the first and fundamental meeting, that of yesterday – explains Ettore Russo, commercial director and member of the Board of Mef – we involved many top-level companies, our partners, to whom we were able to illustrate the enormous evolution which, like Mef, we have had in recent years, and we highlighted – in an evening in which the science communicator Mario Tozzi was also a guest – the recent developments relating to the digitization process aimed at optimizing and improving the services offered to customers , in addition to the investments aimed at the automation of our logistics centre, a project of great importance and fundamental for supporting the growth of the company”.

Ettore Russo also underlined with great force that “Mef, together with its suppliers and partners, is a candidate without hesitation to become a leading company not only on the market, but also on a cultural and training level, to spread messages, carry out commercial actions and give tools to its customers capable of definitively promoting these aspects which are industrial but also and above all of environmental and social evolution”.
