The ceremony, which took place under the dome of Al Wasl Plaza, one of the symbolic places of the Expo, saw the presence of the Italian authorities and Emirati, including the Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, the Commissioner General of Italy, Paolo Glisenti, and the Minister for Tolerance and Coexistence of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan. After the flag-raising ceremony and the execution of the Italian and Emirati anthems, Di Maio took the floor, highlighting how the Expo is a“extraordinary opportunity, not only for Italy, to reach a truly global audience“.

At the end of the ceremony there was a brief performance by the Carabinieri band. While not far away, at Earth Plaza, there was an exhibition of the flag-wavers of Città della Cava. The celebrations for the Italy National Day will then continue in the UAE late afternoon with a concert by the Accademia alla Scala in Milan and an official dinner at the Italian pavilion.
