Ezra Miller, the actor best known for playing the superhero DC Flash in the movies Justice League And The Flash, was again accused of violence. This time the charges are for assaulting a woman in Germany and one in Reykjavík, Iceland. Journalists Manori Ravindran and Adam B. Vary report it exclusively on the US magazine Variety.
In the spring of 2020, as the Covid infection was becoming a global pandemic, Ezra Miller was due to start shooting the latest film in London. Harry Potteror Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets. Filming was halted on March 15, 2020, due to Covid.
“He became a regular at the bars in the Icelandic capital, Reykjavík, where the locals learned about them and even made friends with them,” write Manori Ravindran and Adam B. Vary on Variety (using the pronoun “they” because Miller asks to be called with the pronouns they / them). “Many recognized Miller from their first blockbuster films, The Perks of Being a Wallflower of 2012 and We Need to Talk About Kevin of 2011, in which they played a troubled teenager who carried a bow and arrow to school and killed his classmates “, continues Variety.
Miller, then 27, also began to show a different and unstable side of personality, something that began to worry Icelanders quite a bit.
“There was always something with Ezra,” he told Variety Carlos Reynir, then a bartender at Prikið Kaffihús, a pub located in the heart of Reykjavík.
Reynir said he intervened in two quarrels in Prikið involving Miller. The first was a heated argument between Miller and a man that began as a mockery but ended with the actor putting his hands on the man’s neck, then slapping him in the face. Reynir, who stopped the brawl, says Miller later apologized and the other customer agreed to apologize, which is why the actor was allowed to continue hanging out. “It’s Iceland. It happens twice every weekend, ”the bartender stressed.
But the subsequent altercation, in which Miller assaulted a young woman in the same bar, was more difficult to underestimate, as noted. Variety. The incident is known as the video went viral online in early April 2020: Miller is seen putting his hands on a girl’s neck and pushing her to the ground.
Immediately after the accident, Variety he asked the woman who was attacked. She asked to remain anonymous for privacy reasons, and in the article just appeared on Variety tells his story publicly for the first time.
The video of the attack
In the video (blurry) Miller is seen confronting the woman. She smiles and asks: “Do you want to fight? Is that what you want?” Miller then grabs her by the neck, and she gasps. At that moment the person who filmed the video stops to intervene, as has been confirmed to Variety by the same victim of the aggression.
According to three sources, the woman had spoken to Miller at the bar prior to the fight. She said she inquired about the actor’s feet – which were visible from the flip-flops – after noticing injuries, which Miller explained were battle scars from a fight. After discussing how she got the scratches, the girl said goodbye to her to leave. Not before throwing a playful gauntlet: “But just so you know, I might get you in a fight.” Miller replied, “Do you really want to fight?”, So she the woman she would tell him to go meet in the smoking area after two minutes.
Eventually, Miller confronted her outside the bar.
A trail of bitterness left in Iceland
When Miller began attending Reykjavík’s Prikið Kaffihús, the star’s unusual behavior was first attributed to a celebrity’s eccentric whims. The restaurant’s bartender pointed out that Miller’s speed in self-destructing his reputation in Iceland was astounding.
When the incident happened in the bar, a friend of the woman who challenged the actor allegedly told him, “My friend shouldn’t have said that. It was just a joke, of course, but [Miller] he took it literally and got very angry and ran out. “
The victim of the attack in the Icelandic club said: “Suddenly, [sono] above me, choking me, continuing to scream in my face if I want to fight. My friend who is filming sees [loro] who are not joking and that is actually serious, so he stops filming and pushes them away from me while [stanno] still trying to fight. Two of my friends are holding back [Miller] while [stanno] yelling, ‘This is what you wanted! This is what you wanted! ‘”(At the time of the interview, it was not clear whether the woman was aware that Miller was using the pronoun them, notes Variety).
Victim’s friend said Miller spat in the girl’s face “multiple times,” a dangerous affront in the early pre-vaccine days of the pandemic. The bartender Reynir ran out to stop the fight. “[Miller] he grabs me by the throat as I’m trying to walk them out the door [sul retro] and he tells me they won’t leave, “Reynir said.” They spit in my face several times, “he added.
Variety verified Reynir’s story by interviewing three other sources, including the manager of the restaurant Prikið.
The woman reported the incident to the police – and the report was confirmed by Variety – but did not want to file a complaint.
Another woman, Nadia (who asked that only her first name be used, worried about her privacy), also said in an interview with Variety that after a two-year friendship with Miller, the actor showed up at her Berlin apartment late one evening in February 2022. He had been invited by her, after the two had communicated almost exclusively via text message for months.
They hadn’t seen each other since they’d had a sexual encounter (consensual, precise Variety) in 2020. But after a friendly interaction, Miller’s mood changed abruptly. The reason? Nadia told him that she couldn’t smoke inside her house.
“This made them explode (“ the plural always refers to the pronoun they / them, ed), Nadia said. “I asked them to leave about 20 times, maybe more. They started insulting me. […] They walked around my house, looked at everything, touched everything, scattered tobacco leaves on the floor. It was disgusting and very intrusive, ”the woman said.
After about half an hour of pleading, Nadia said she finally got Miller to leave, not before calling the police. The accident left her deeply troubled. She still wanted to clarify the fact that she never felt at risk of sexual assault that night in her apartment, however she believed the actor could somehow physically attack her, she claimed.
She said Miller would start accusing her of things she didn’t do. “They started saying I attacked them. I had beaten them. I had hurt them. “
When Nadia finally managed to kick the actor out of the house, she called the police to cancel the distress call.
“I thought it was over, but it wasn’t,” Nadia said
But about half an hour later, around 6 in the morning, Nadia heard a knock on the front door of her apartment building. When she looked out, she would have seen Miller trying to break down the door, while she screamed that Nadia had stolen his passport and money. She later discovered that Miller had left a second jacket in her apartment, containing Miller’s passport and credit card. She threw it off her balcony to let him have it.
The confirmation of Nadia’s story by 5 people
Five people – two friends, a women’s rights advocate, a social worker and Nadia’s lawyer – told Variety that he spoke to the girl immediately after her alleged meeting with Miller and they confirmed her story. In April Nadia filed a criminal complaint, of which Variety confirms after having accessed the documents filed with the German State Prosecutor’s Office in Berlin. While the prosecutor was investigating the housebreaking allegation against Miller, the proceedings were stopped as the plaintiff was no longer in Germany.
About a month after her alleged meeting with Miller, Nadia read reports that the actor had been arrested on the other side of the world while in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment after another turbulent incident in a bar.
At that point Nadia realized that she was not alone in the experience with the actor. “It appears to be a pattern,” she said.
“There seems to be a pattern”
That alleged pattern, he continues Variety, became more alarming: After a second arrest in Hawaii in April (for second-degree assault, after allegedly throwing a chair at a woman and leaving her with a cut on her forehead), the actor received two restraining orders. The first, as reported by the Los Angeles Times, it was that of the parents of an 18-year-old from the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North and South Dakota: they believe Miller manipulated their daughter from the time she was 12 to 18. The second was requested by the parents of a current 12-year-old. of Massachusetts, involved in an accident that took place a few days before the alleged meeting between Nadia and Miller in Berlin.
The Daily Beast reported that Miller allegedly had an aggressive confrontation with the 12-year-old’s family from Greenfield, Massachusetts. The quarrel would have been caused by her mother’s casual reference to her “her tribe” and Miller’s claim that the board game Parcheesi appropriates Rastafarian culture.
Miller allegedly showed a gun and said to a family member, “Talking like this could put you in a really serious situation.”
Rolling Stone’s revelations about children housed in unsafe conditions
In June 2022 Rolling Stone revealed that Miller allegedly housed a mother and her three young children on their Vermont farm, under unsafe living conditions, with unprotected guns scattered around the sprawling property. The children’s mother told Rolling Stone that Miller would help her escape a toxic marriage.
Miller’s cinematic future
It is unclear whether Ezra Miller will continue to star as Scarlet Speedster in future projects. However, Warner Bros. is still determined to release hers The Flasha film with a budget of $ 200 million, in June 2023.
According to sources familiar with the facts, the film costs too much for the studio to throw it out completely and shoot a new one with a different actor in the role of Miller. Furthermore, the latter is practically in every scene, so he would mean totally redoing the film, turning it from scratch.
Due to these scandals, all eyes are now on Warner Bros. and its relationship with Miller. As he points out Varietythe studio has already had to downplay the actor’s involvement in Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secretsreleased in theaters last April.
No comments from Miller reps
When asked for comments by Variety, Miller reps have not responded so far. A source familiar with the situation revealed a Variety that Miller wants to face the allegations, but for now he would have chosen to focus privately on his own health and recovery.
