FBI seizes New York Mayor Eric Adams’ cell phones due to ties to Turkey

The FBI has seized the cell phones of New York Mayor Eric Adams as part of an investigation into the shadow of Turkish funds in his election campaign. Informed sources reported this to CNN. The mayor was not under investigation so far but the feds searched the home of 25-year-old Brianna Suggs, responsible for his fundraising and promoter of her political agenda.

New York Mayor: ‘nothing to hide’

”I have nothing to hide”. This is how New York Mayor Eric Adams responded to corruption charges against him after FBI agents seized his cell phones and iPad as part of investigations into his 2021 campaign funds. Adams’ office confirmed the seizure of the devices. ”As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all of my staff to respect the law and cooperate fully with investigations. And I will continue to do exactly that. I have nothing to hide,” the mayor of New York said in a statement.

The story

FBI agents have seized New York Mayor Eric Adams’ electronic devices in what appears to be a twist in the investigation linking the mayor to a Turkish company close to the Turkish government. The New York Times reports it. The raid would have taken place in a cinematic way: the agents approached the mayor on the street and asked his security to take a step back, then they got into his SUV with Adams and showed him the search order signed by the judge. At least two mobile phones and an iPad were seized and checked, only to be returned within a few days. The FBI raid is a sign that, according to investigators, Adams has a direct link with the Turkish construction company that financed his election campaign and which is linked to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The federal investigation broke into the mayor’s life on November 2, when agents searched the home of Brianna Suggs, Adams’ campaign fundraising manager. Investigators were looking for evidence of the plan to violate the Political Financing Law, which prohibits receiving money from foreign entities. Also among the donors targeted is Bay Atlantic University, a Washington college founded by a Turk and affiliated with a school that Adams visited in 2015 during his trip to Turkey as Brooklyn municipal president. The FBI wants to understand if the current government financed the mayor’s campaign and if Adams returned the “favor” in some way.
