On 1-2-3-4 March 2023 he will be on tour at the Pavillon Noir, Aix-en-Provence, and then in Italy: 10 March 2023, Storchi Theater, Modena 12 March 2023, Arena del Sole, Bologna March 2023: Trento and Bolzano. This new show is a co-production that brings together major theaters and companies: Ravasi Garzanti Foundation of Milan Ballet Preljocaj (Aix-en-Provence), Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse (Paris), ERT / National Theater (Modena), I Teatri Foundation (Reggio Emilia), Santa Chiara Cultural Services Center (Trento). The production and the project that accompanies it is explained in the words of Gigi Cristoforetti, Director of the National Choreographic Center of Reggio Emilia / Compagnia Aterballetto: “Two established choreographers, each with a precise figure, face in a creation for the National Choreographic Center of Reggio Emilia some themes of extraordinary interest, e
not just artistic. The transformations of the body with age, the very concepts of beauty and
virtuosity, self-representation by each of us of our own age.
Aging is not a problem for the actor, writer or visual artist: al
on the contrary, we often see the expressive palettes enriched. But in dance, that is
artistic and universal language, will we perhaps be anchored (and limited) by the same conception of the performativity of sport? More generally, the body that changes over the years is a central theme in our society, and in the sensitivity of each of us. Dance allows us to deepen a research that is primarily artistic. That the two choreographers intend to push to the end. Preljocaj, the choreographer of visual beauty and narrative intensity, is not only looking for former dancers. They are also the people who interest him for this project, able to tell and create a new and intense movement. Rachid Ouramdane relentlessly searches for new expressive nuances, and experiments with the boundaries of the human body, reaching the circus. On this occasion, his interest naturally turned to tiptap, an extraordinary space for popular and cultured dance, and also a social dimension. For Angelin Preljocaj as for Rachid Ouramdane it is important to make this fascinating material react, made up of different bodies and physical histories, to deeply question the canons of beauty and virtuosity. “Senior” interpreters (dancers and non-dancers): this is the artistic heart of a large project that deals with a theme starting from the point of view of dance. To the proposal to create beyond certain boundaries, the two choreographers responded with the generosity, curiosity and intellectual energy that is their own. Unlike other important experiences, they have wanted to extend the career of groups of dancers, in this project the goal is poetic,
and crystallizes truly universal questions. The central one is suggested to us by Preljocaj: what is the age of a body? The show represents an international co-production, and opens up to the dimension of research, workshops and meetings dedicated to the topic, thanks to the scientific partner that accompanies us: the Ravasi Garzanti Foundation in Milan “.

What is the age of a body? This question has been with me like a mantra for some time. Does the same body have different ages: the biological one or the one linked to the practice of its activity? The age that others give or the age that one perceives?
This cryptic question bounces back with each new wrong answer. I thought the best way to ask, like setting the table for a dinner
of enlightened minds, would have been to work with people who had the
privilege and, in a certain sense, the good fortune of living through different eras. These
people over 60 who instinctively echo Spinoza’s phrase “the soul is a thought of the body”. In this choreographic quest, trying to grasp this question is tantamount to asking what thought generates these bodies, which is why I would like to meet a wide range of personalities without necessarily addressing dance professionals. I am embarking on an adventure that could be a journey into the interstices that mark the times of human life. Angelin Preljocaj, April 2022.

There is no dance without a body and there are no bodies that do not age. In questioning the transformation of the dancer’s body over the course of his life, I wanted to look at the notion of aging through three prisms. First of all, the aging of the body, choosing two performers who have had one
career of professional dancers and now I am retired. For this duo, it’s about
embody the awareness of the effects of age on the movement of their bodies.
Furthermore, I wanted to tackle the aging of a dance movement by placing this piece in the world of the music-hall and more particularly of the tip tap. How did this discipline, a real social phenomenon that we had the impression would have lasted for centuries, to fall into disuse today, while remaining anchored in popular culture and regularly revisited and updated? Finally, as romance often permeates the music hall in one way or another, this piece will be an opportunity to address not the aging process, but rather
the evolution or maturation of a couple relationship.
