Ferigo (Inwit), ‘accelerate on 5G, still delays on permits’

“We absolutely must accelerate the development of 5G” which still encounters obstacles despite the funds in the pnrr: underlined Giovanni Ferigo, CEO of Inwit, the tower company in which Tim participates, speaking at the 5G Italy summit promoted by CNIT. “We build infrastructures both with macro-towers but also with indoor coverings. For this reason – explained the CEO – we operate through Das (Distributed Antenna System ed) or small cells, small antennas that emit very few watts and adapt to any context”. The company is ready to “take up these challenges; our mission is to create infrastructures to accommodate all operators, both mobile and fwa, which in Italy are a very significant feature”.

However, for the roll out of 5G, the CEO of Inwit said that “there are obstacles regarding the speed required by the allocated funds; there was a simplification decree in July but in fact it was not adopted by any city. So we arrive at 210 days of waiting “to get a permit to build a tower, 210 days that is” a year, while in three years we must have invested this money to have 5G and therefore it becomes a very complicated issue “.

Speeding up the authorization process is also on the agenda indicated at the 5G summit by Laura Di Raimondo, Director of Asstel Assotelecomunicazioni. “It is necessary” to ensure compliance with the deadlines for the release of the 700MhZ band for 5G; reshape the payment deadlines for charges for 5G frequencies, to bring them into line with the times for the effective implementation of the networks; to rapidly and fully implement the provisions for the simplification of the authorization processes for the construction of the networks, contained in the Simplification Decree ”, he explained.
