The initiative of the Food Bank Foundation in the presence: it will be possible to buy and donate food for those in difficulty
There National Food Collection Day, promoted by the Banco Alimentare Foundation, turns 25 and is also back in attendance after the last edition in which it was dematerialized and made with gift cards converted into food: this year, in the supermarkets participating in the initiative, it is possible to physically buy food again non-perishable to donate to people in difficulty, welcomed by charitable structures affiliated with Banco Alimentare.
The Food Collection will take place Saturday 27 November 2021: 145,000 volunteers, spaced out and equipped with a green pass, in 11,000 supermarkets all along the peninsula, they will invite you to buy long-life products: homogenized with fruit, tuna and canned meat, oil, legumes, peeled tomatoes. The donated products will then be distributed to 7,600 charitable structures affiliated with Banco Alimentare (canteens for the poor, communities for minors, solidarity counters, reception centers, etc.) which support almost 1,700,000 people.
The Food Collection is the most popular voluntary educational act in Italy, and it was the first solidarity experience of this type. For a quarter of a century it has made it possible to sensitize people to carry out a concrete act of help towards those most in need and has given way to similar initiatives, which have also been implemented by other organizations.
“For 25 years the Food Bank has been proposing the simplest gesture of charity without interruption: donating food for those in difficulty – says Giovanni Bruno, president of the Banco Alimentare Onlus Foundation – The improvement of the health situation, compared to the beginning of the pandemic , it can make us forget that there are still many people in difficulty. Precisely for this reason we want to continue to keep solidarity alive and we hope that many will take up our call to make this gesture of sharing “.
“As Pope Francis recalled on the occasion of the Fifth World Day of the Poor – he adds – ‘sharing generates brotherhood … it is lasting … it strengthens solidarity and lays the necessary premises to achieve justice … an individualistic lifestyle is complicit in generating poverty … If the poor are marginalized, the very concept of democracy is put into crisis. ”We therefore ask everyone to participate in the Food Collection as a concrete act of fighting individualism and indifference”.
