For over 70% of those who use them, meal vouchers are useful against inflation: the survey

This is one of the data that emerged from the “Food” (Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand) survey conducted by Edenred. The research, relating to 2023, involved 47,327 workers and 1,672 catering operators, distributed across 19 countries around the world, including Italy.

A solution to counteract the increase in prices on the shopping cart? For over 70% of those who use them, meal vouchers also represent an important support for increasing purchasing power, thus being able to choose healthier, quality foods. This is one of the data that emerged from the survey called “Food” (Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand) and conducted by Edenred, a company that introduced meal vouchers in our country starting in the 1970s. In the research, relating to 2023, 47,327 workers and 1,672 catering operators were involved, distributed in 19 countries around the world, including Italy.

The economic incentive represented by meal vouchers

A first piece of data that has emerged is quite evident: the majority of Italian workers expect price increases related to food (92%), energy (92%) and transport (93%) for 2024. And precisely for this reason, as “La Repubblica” which cited the survey explains, being able to take advantage of meal vouchers is a real economic incentive. But not only because a higher value, which is true for 75% of those interviewed, would encourage workers to increase the quality of their meals, even during lunch breaks. And, from this perspective, restaurateurs are ready to welcome the trend, considering that 89% of them confirm that they want to enhance healthy eating through their culinary proposals.

A “strategic role in the family budget”

“As highlighted by the 2023 edition of the Food Survey, the role of meal vouchers is becoming increasingly central and strategic in the daily budget of families, especially in a period like this, characterized by strong inflation”. Agnieszka Piszczek explained this, head of Partnership of Edenred Italia. According to what emerged, he added, “the strong perception of the meal voucher emerges both as an element capable of increasing people’s purchasing power and of increasing the turnover of restaurants and encouraging the proximity economy. It then contributes to promoting a healthy lifestyle supported by a healthy and balanced diet”.
