Francis to young people in Congo: “The future is in your hands”

“Do not be afraid to make your voice heard, because not only the future but also today is in your hands: be at the center of the present!”. This is Pope Francis’ exhortation to the youth and catechists of Kinshasa. The Pontiff suggested to them 5 “ingredients for the future” like the 5 fingers of the hand: prayer, community, honesty, forgiveness, service. “The Democratic Republic of Congo expects a different future from your hands, because the future is in your hands”. Africa will once again have a “heart of peace and freedom”, he underlined.

The Pope’s message to young people

“Friends, I have left you five tips to identify priorities among the many voices

persuasive that circulate. In life – he observes -, as in road traffic, it is often disorder that creates useless traffic jams and blockages, which waste time and energy, and fuel anger. On the other hand, even in confusion, it does us good to give our hearts and lives fixed points, stable directions, to start a different future, without chasing the winds of opportunism”. “Many mobilize because they are magnetized by their own interests; you do not be afraid to mobilize for good, to invest in good, in proclaiming the Gospel, preparing yourselves passionately and adequately, giving life to organized, long-term projects”. Francis thanks the young people and catechists present for what they are doing and for who I am: “For your enthusiasm, your light and your hope”. “I would like to tell you one last thing: never be discouraged! Jesus believes in you and never leaves you alone. The joy you have today

protect it and don’t let it fade away”. “The Democratic Republic of Congo expects a different future from your hands, because the future is in your hands. Thanks to you, your country may once again become a fraternal garden, the heart of peace and freedom of Africa! Thank you!”.
