From Renzi to Conte, opposition to Meloni’s attack

The reactions of the leaders and opposition parties to the Prime Minister’s press conference

From Matteo Renzi to Giuseppe Conte, passing through the Democratic Party with Elly Schlein and Carlo Calenda, opposition to the attack by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after the words spoken by the Prime Minister in the press conference.

Renzi: “Never have you heard so many lies at once”

“I saw Giorgia Meloni’s press conference. Never have you heard so many lies all at once.” The leader of Italia Viva Matteo Renzi wrote it on social media. “The Prime Minister says that she has not increased taxes: evidently the excise duties on petrol and the VAT on sanitary napkins have increased on their own. The Prime Minister says that we need to reconcile maternity with work but in the meantime she is increasing the VAT on nappies and on products for children. The Prime Minister says that she never asked for the resignation of her opponents when she was in Government and yet she asked me to resign once a month: for the banks, Unicef, Tempa Rossa”.

“The prime minister – Renzi continues – says that she could have put her sister in a subsidiary like the others do: who else? Perhaps the North Korean leader does this with his sister. Maybe. The prime minister says that she has no problems with her class manager: the brother-in-law stops the Frecciarossa trains and spends millions of euros on his secretariat, the gunman shoots and invokes parliamentary immunity, the undersecretary for justice organizes parties with the prison police as if it were his own private phalanx. The prime minister says that on “immigration the climate has changed and in fact landings have increased by 50% in the face of those like you who said ‘We will close the ports’. For now they are just turning a blind eye to reality.”

“Now Meloni will go into electoral campaign mode, radicalizing Elly Schlein and cannibalizing Tajani and Salvini. But then reality will present her with the bill, starting with the 30 billion euros that she must find between now and the end of the year. The liars have this the good thing: they think that people will forever believe what they say. At the beginning it’s like this. Then suddenly reality emerges, all at once. Happy 2024, dear President Meloni. For next year even less, please: less posts, less lies and above all less taxes. Give us this gift: at least remove the taxes that you put in.”

Pd: “Two hours without saying anything. Name the names and surnames of those who are blackmailing”

“Over two hours of press conference to say nothing, continue with the usual victim attitude, with the usual attacks on the opposition, with the usual creation of imaginary enemies, without ever giving answers to the country’s problems such as healthcare and the cost of living. Guide the Government but still seems to be in opposition. Meloni, when will you talk to us about what future you imagine for Italy? Everything else is boredom”, so the leaders of the PD groups in the Senate and the Chamber Francesco Boccia and Chiara Braga, in a post published on Facebook and shared by secretary Elly Schlein.

“The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, continues to describe a country of toys – they continue – but she doesn’t have the slightest understanding of Italy’s problems, from healthcare to employment. The falsehoods that she continues to tell are serious. As always, a lot of propaganda and unjustified attacks on the opposition. It will be a complex year but neither you, nor your government, are up to what awaits us.”

“Meloni’s evocation of alleged influences of unspecified origin is disturbing and disconcerting. Be more precise, President. Name the names and surnames of those who want to ‘deal the cards’. Please clarify if specific episodes exist. Put Parliament and the country in a position to understand and evaluate on the basis of concrete facts, not conspiracy theorems”, writes Senator Antonio Misiani, economic manager of the Democratic Party, in X.

Conte: “Colmo for a patriot? Ending up like Meloni in the EU”

“What is the limit for those who call themselves ‘patriots’? Ending up like Giorgia Meloni. As you now know, the Prime Minister has bowed to Germany and France for an agreement on the Stability Pact with which cuts and taxes for over 12 billion a year. Finally today in the press conference she could not escape the questions and the answer was the following: “I am satisfied – under given conditions – with the agreement we have made on the Stability Pact, clearly it is not the Pact that I would have wanted. So why did he say yes?” The president of the M5S wrote it on Facebook.

“We have a big problem in Chigi if the prime minister is ‘satisfied’ with 12 billion in cuts which, as usual, risk affecting rights, services, healthcare and so on. For the future of our young people – continues Conte – we have mandated to negotiate in Europe with a Prime Minister who says ‘yes sir’ to what other countries decide for us. A President who bows her head in front of her European partners with the same diligence with which she does not make the banks pay 2 billion in tax on extra profits. If there is a ‘black belt’ of mockery of citizens, that rightfully belongs to Giorgia Meloni.”

“Three years ago we returned from Europe with 209 billion for Italy, now we return with a mortgage of billions in cuts every year. From ‘patriots’ who were ‘ready’ for anything to enemies of Italy’s interests, it doesn’t take much: just one year of Government”, he concludes.

Calenda: “Complete absence of a project for Italy”

“Little or nothing on what is important: healthcare, wages, education, Pnrr, industrial policy. Many invectives against the left, some gossip, a sprinkling of influencers, a couple of jokes and a lot of news. You can feel the complete absence of a project for Italy. This is the summary of Meloni’s conference. We have already seen very similar ones.” So on X the leader of Action Carlo Calenda.
