Gentiloni on Sky TG24: “The Commission is working with Italy to avoid delays”

“On the part of the European Commission there is maximum possible flexibility, not only out of good manners but to avoid, especially in countries with important plans, that there are no excessive delays: this is in our interest”, explained the European commissioner to Economy

Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner, spoke on the subject of the Pnrr. Interviewed by Sky TG24 he said that “we need to work quickly and well and we need to receive the remodulation of the plan” from Italy “as soon as possible”. (PNRR: THIRD INSTALLMENT)

“Maximum flexibility from the Commission”

“And it is clear that on the part of the European Commission there is maximum possible flexibility, not only for good manners but to avoid, especially in countries with important plans, that there are no excessive delays: this is in our interest”, continued Gentiloni . And again: “Maximum flexibility also means that if there is an interest on the part of the Italian authorities to start thinking in detail about the next installment for the month of June, which is just around the corner, let’s concentrate on that; there is a willingness from the Commission to say ‘ok, let’s look at the fourth installment’ but we must also look at the whole remodulation as soon as possible, without waiting for the last moment”. Gentiloni gave the example of Spain: the reformulation of the plan was discussed for a few months “because we don’t want a plan to be presented and then the Commission to say that it’s not good; we want that when we receive the proposed amendment, it is at least part already broadly corresponding to the objectives and there are only the details to be verified. So the work is important and we need to go as far as possible – he concluded – and do it quickly and well”.
