Gitex, the longest-running tech gathering in the Middle East


Not only Expo in Dubai: Gitex is also back, considered the most important technological event in the Middle East and one of the longest-running in the world, now in its 41st edition. With the Gitex, Dubai becomes the center of world technology, because if the week of Space and the most advanced technologies opens at Expo, all the other companies and startups are concentrated at Gitex, which takes place on the other side of the Emirate city. and small and large companies that are involved in technology in one way or another. Central themes of this edition are applied artificial intelligence and robotics, and both of these themes have declinations on smart cars, the latest generation machines; but also the Blockchain and the opportunities opened by 5G.

The most interesting Italian technologies

This Gitex is also a showcase for many Italian startups, who have come to Dubai to create partnerships with local technology operators and are looking for investors to develop Italian projects in the Gulf area. Here is a selection of the most interesting projects.

Phaly with Mario Amura, winner of the Smau Innovation Award for two consecutive years, presented the Interactive experience for the tourism promotion of Dubai and of one of the most iconic pavilions of the Expo, that of sustainability. Phlay technology makes it possible to transform viewers watching a video into active users who can make decisions and create their own version.

Roboze with Alessio Lorusso won the Startup Award promoted by the Dubai Ice. It operates in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering sector, in particular it deals with the design and production of industrial 3D printers.

Aquarius is a startup that designs an anti-gravity bio-suit designed to intervene on the musculature and postural through a complex system of electrodes, sensors, vision sensors and semi-rigid structures applied to techno tissues.

Roboze and Aquarius are two startups supported and accompanied to the Gitex in Dubai by the Puglia Region which has an in-house investment agency, Puglia Sviluppo, which invests in ideas and technological projects to make them happen.

The other projects

Revelis with Salvatore Iiritano presented an artificial intelligence platform for monitoring consumption on the water network.

ALBA Robot presented the first personal augmented mobility vehicle integrated with Alexa, to make traditional wheelchairs smart.

KNOBS, supported on site by Sva Group, which develop IoT systems for the blockchain.

Digital spending in the Gulf area is expected to close this year with a 4.9% growth compared to last year’s boom. Also for this reason, ICE Dubai has promoted meetings for possible collaborations between Italy and the United Arab Emirates. The presentation of these Italian excellences to potential Emirati investors, business angels, venture capital funds is one of the most interesting opportunities offered by this event.
