Finally there is a release date de Gladiator 2, awaited sequel to the hit directed by Ridley Scott that has been talked about a lot in recent months. The film will be in theaters on November 22, 2024 with Paul Mescalnominated for Best Actor at the Oscars 2023 for Aftersun, in negotiations to be part of the cast, according to Deadline. Gladiator 2: what do we know about the film
As first reported by Justin Kroll, Paul Mescal will not take the place of Massimo Decimo Meridio, the protagonist played by Russell Crowe who dies at the end of the first 2000 film, but it will be Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), who is now a grown man as the story takes place years after the end of Gladiator. Lucius was also the grandson of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius, who killed his father and took the throne. Commodus came face to face with Maximus—who, though mortally wounded, stabbed the emperor before vanishing into the afterlife to be reunited with his wife and son slain before him.

Although Paul Mescal now seems to be the favorite for the lead role, Scott would also audition Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler and Miles Teller, but other confirmations on the cast of the film will come soon. November 22, 2024 is the weekend before Thanksgiving in the United States, an important time for theatrical releases. And strong competition from other equally strong stocks is not expected at the moment. Gladiator 2 it will precede the November 27 theatrical release of a still untitled Disney animated film, but otherwise it will certainly attract the curious and fans of the first film, which has proved to be a real blockbuster over time, to the cinema.
