The Monegasque: “I don’t know if there was a misunderstanding with Sainz”

“It wasn’t the best of qualifying.” Charles Leclerc will start from seventh position with his Ferrari in the Australian GP, the third round of the 2023 World Championship. Carlos Sainz did better, fifth on the grid. Leclerc tries to summarize the decisive phases of Q3. “I don’t know what happened on the second lap of Q3, if there was a misunderstanding with Carlos or what,” says the Monegasque as reported by Autosport. “I found myself behind him for the entire first sector, it wasn’t the best. We’ll talk about it in the debrief to try and improve these situations”, he adds.

“I was confident that we would be able to put together our potential in our last attempt in Q3, but things didn’t go the way we wanted because we missed the preparation lap and we lost performance. We need to make sure we improve as a team in situations similar in view of upcoming occasions”, Leclerc’s words reported by the Cavallino website. “However, we tried different set-up configurations and worked on the race pace, so I’m counting on being able to fight for some interesting positions tomorrow,” he adds.

“We had a good pace today in qualifying. Unfortunately, however, there was a bit of confusion with some other cars on the preparation lap and this cost us a couple of tenths in turn 1, because I arrived at that point on the still too cold”, the words of Sainz.

“We worked on different set-up configurations this weekend and tomorrow we’ll see what we can do in the race. It won’t be easy but we’ll try to gain ground from our starting position and bring home a good result”, continues the Spaniard.
