Greece, clashes in central Athens between far-right and anti-fascist groups: 13 arrests

• Monastiraki metro station, in the center of Athens, was the scene of an attack organized by a group of around 30-40 neo-fascists yesterday evening. Greek police said they had arrested 13 people following the clashes

POLICE INTERVENTION

• Yesterday the Greek police had deployed further three thousand agents following the announcement of a far-right rally in the suburb of Neo Heraklion to commemorate the death of two Golden Dawn militants on November 1, 2013

• In the same suburb hundreds of demonstrators they gathered yesterday afternoon to participate in an anti-fascist protest

• At the end of the event, according to Hellenic police sources cited by Efsyn, some anti-fascist militants they gathered in Victoria Square, where clashes occurred with the police, who reacted to the stone throwing of the antagonists with the use of smoke bombs

• Despite the police ban on both gatherings, around 1,600 people gathered in several places in the capital, according to police reports. In Victoria Square some demonstrators attacked riot police with stones, also damaging two service motorcycles.
