From 8 to 10 September the National Paralympic Sailing Championship
There is great excitement in the Port of Chiavari, where the Italian Naval League Chiavari-Lavagna section is organizing the Hansa 303 Class National Paralympic Sailing Championship from 8 to 10 September. An important sporting and supportive event, attentive to the needs of athletes and of their companions, to allow everyone to experience the sea. The regatta, for the first time in the waters of the Gulf of Tigullio, will see over 60 athletes with disabilities from all over Italy juggle. The event will be opened by an inaugural ceremony on Friday 8 September at 10:00 in the Tourist Port of Chiavari, in the presence of civil and military authorities and representatives of the world of sport.
The organization of the national regatta has been entrusted by the Italian Hansa Class Association (AICH) and the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), with the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), to the Italian Naval League of Chiavari-Lavagna, as recognition of the great work that the Section is carrying out for the benefit of local people and associations dealing with physical, cognitive and relational disabilities, giving them the opportunity to go by boat. The single and double crew of the Chiavari-Lavagna Naval League is part of the “Polo Vela e Voga per tutti”, the Paralympic nucleus of the Section created by councilor Umberto Verna in his dual figure of LNI coach and FIV Paralympic instructor. The Lega Navale Italiana is today the association that owns the largest number of Hansa 303s in Italy, stable dinghies with colored sails that allow even people with severe disabilities to fully experience the sea.
The national championship is sponsored by the Liguria Region, by the Municipality of Chiavari and Lavagna together with that of the European Community of Sport recognized in Tigullio and Golfo Paradiso in 2023. The support for the event was also received from Panathlon International, while at sea wave the banners of association of the Tigullio leagues in support of the regatta.
There are many voluntary members involved and the associations involved in logistics and security, including the Civil Protection Volunteer Association and the Carabinieri Volunteer Association. There is no shortage of technical partners such as BBraun and MadeIT4All, a start-up of members with disabilities including Marco Rossato, a paraplegic sailor engaged together with Igor Macera aboard Tornavento in the “Giro d’Italia a vela – Sailing beyond the limits” initiative , supported by the Italian Naval League.
Rossato and Macera will be the protagonists together with Umberto Verna and Carmelo Forastieri, president of the Italian Hansa Class Association, in a special episode of the “Giro d’Italia Live” format dedicated to the Hansa 303, live on Thursday 7 September at 11.30 on the Facebook page of the Italian Naval League. The episode will also be available on the LNI YouTube channel.
The sporting event is enriched by an extensive program of cultural events.
